What's standing between you and a more fulfilling life purpose? Sometimes the biggest challenge is getting started.
Behavior change design expert Dr. Ken Resnicow joins Dr. Vic Strecher to discuss how you can tap into motivation that will help you lead a more purposeful life.
You’ll learn:
Depletion, fear, and dread are three barriers to positive change. For example, if you want to start a new exercise program, these might sound like, “I’m exhausted and don’t have time,” “I’m afraid I will fail,” and “I hate working out.” Getting curious about your barriers is the first step to overcoming them.
Three keys to motivation are meaning, novelty, and affirmation. Using the exercise example above, the three motivators could sound like, “This will give me energy to play with my kids,” “It’s exciting to try something new,” and, “I’ve overcome initial fears before and I can do it again.” When looking to make a change, find opportunities to define what is meaningful, exciting, and achievable for you.
